Build Day! Well, the first part of it, anyway. I didn’t really think we were going to get the entire bike built today, but I was cautiously optimistic. My buddy Layne picked me up on the way to Michael’s house (and, of course, his shop), and we unloaded all my stuff and almost immediately got [...]

Last weekend a friend and I did a short tour of Orcas Island, my first multi-day tour. Although we didn’t do many miles (only 68), but Orcas is the hilliest island of the San Juans, so we did tons of climbing. Almost 12,000 feet of climbing total over the five days we were on the [...]

Friday I received my new project, a Steelwool Tweed. I ordered the frameset directly from Steelwool Bicyles’ home at Tall Tree Cycles in Ottawa, Canada. Shipping was not cheap at $90, and I had to pay almost $60 in brokerage and duty fees. But now I finally have the frameset and I’m ready to start [...]

Well, I have decided upon my next bike, and have gone so far as to begin saving for it. The Steelwool Tweed, by Steelwool Cycles of Ottawa, Canada, is dubbed their “Swiss Army Bike.” And that seems to be true- this bike can accommodate nearly any kind of part you would want to use on [...]

Forgot to post about stats from last weekend’s rides. 87.21 miles total, 37.4 mph maximum speed. My bike computer doesn’t have average speed, unfortunately. If I had to wager, I would say 13mph.

Saturday Woke up around 7, drank water, went back to sleep. Woke up around 9, very rough around the edges. Ate a bit, then vomited, then felt a billion times better. The sag wagon (Michael’s dad) came, we packed up and headed back to Michael’s folks’ place. They were generous enough to host me for [...]

I took a three-day weekend last weekend to take a trip with my friend Michael down to Oregon to ride bikes. It was pretty epic. I didn’t take nearly enough photos. Friday Got up at Butt AM (that’s 5:00 for your reference, 0500 for you military types) and threw my gear in the car, strapped [...]

My friend Michael, who I went to library school with and who has over the years, through guile and subtlety, influenced me to ride bikes more, also influenced me to join Seattle bike drunks .83 (or Point 83) for an overnight camping ride. Actually it was more like an overnight party in the woods, which [...]
