Drinking and touring

A friend and I are going on a short bike tour this summer, my first “real” tour (not a S24O). For the tour, I’m seriously considering purchasing an Ahearne “Spaceman” flask cage and a Surly flask for drinking, as beer tends to be a heavy thing to carry on the bike.

Yesterday, a I got together with a couple of friends, took a ferry to Vashon Island, and had a good, 25-mile ride in the rain. Biking Metal Punx! The spring rain is a lot less harsh than the frigid winter rain, so even though it was coming down most of the time, our spirits stayed [...]

Steelwool Tweed

Friday I received my new project, a Steelwool Tweed. I ordered the frameset directly from Steelwool Bicyles’ home at Tall Tree Cycles in Ottawa, Canada. Shipping was not cheap at $90, and I had to pay almost $60 in brokerage and duty fees. But now I finally have the frameset and I’m ready to start [...]

It was misty, after having rained overnight, one of the first rains of the season. We made our way downtown via the waterfront, and down a hill onto Westlake, where the [...]

Recovery

Well, I am offically done with physical therapy. I feel great, have been piling on the miles (pain-free, I might add), and am getting ready for my first century (that’s 100 miles for you non-cycling types) next month. The word on the street is that a couple of friends and I will be riding up [...]

Saturday Woke up around 7, drank water, went back to sleep. Woke up around 9, very rough around the edges. Ate a bit, then vomited, then felt a billion times better. The sag wagon (Michael’s dad) came, we packed up and headed back to Michael’s folks’ place. They were generous enough to host me for [...]

I took a three-day weekend last weekend to take a trip with my friend Michael down to Oregon to ride bikes. It was pretty epic. I didn’t take nearly enough photos. Friday Got up at Butt AM (that’s 5:00 for your reference, 0500 for you military types) and threw my gear in the car, strapped [...]
